You wake on the shell of a giant turtle drifting through an endless sea. There is a camp, a well, a fire pit, and an old man who barely acknowledges you.
Fishing for Islands is a survival crafting game told in 5 episodes. Each episode is one day. Each day, you cast bait into the water and raise a new island from the deep — a farm, a pasture, a bakery, a fishing pier. Each island brings a new character, new resources, and new questions about where you are and why.
After Episode 5, the story opens into Free Play. The Old Man crafts deep bait in exchange for supplies, and each cast raises one of 9 roguelike islands — forests, granaries, cornfields, smokehouses, woodworks, tide pools — that can appear multiple times, each a new instance.
There is no winning. There is surviving, building, and wondering what's beneath the water.

Episode 1: The Campfire — Wake on the turtle. Meet the Old Man. Gather sticks, fuel the fire, draw water, eat, sleep. He gives you your first bait.
Episode 2: The Golden Field — Cast bait to raise the Wheat Farm. Meet David and his dog. Plant wheat seeds, water crops, pull weeds.
Episode 3: The Shepherd — Raise the Sheep Pasture. Meet Sally. Feed sheep with weeds or wheat, wait for wool to grow, learn to shear. Sheep manure enriches soil.
Episode 4: The Oven — Raise the Bakery. Meet Pierre the baker and his mouse. Mill wheat into flour, bake bread (flour + water + sticks). The mouse reveals a golden seed.
Episode 5: The Deep — The Old Man gives you deep bait. Raise the Fishing Pier. Meet Maria. Learn deep fishing, see the underwater ruins. The story opens.
Free Play — After Episode 5, bring the Old Man supplies (wheat, wool, bread, sticks, or fish) and he crafts deep bait. Cast it to choose from 2 random roguelike islands. They can repeat infinitely.
The Old Man (M) — Your guide. Sits by the fire pit. Gives you bait during the story and crafts deep bait in free play in exchange for supplies.
David (D) — Young farmer on the wheat farm. Gives you seeds, teaches planting. Curious about the turtle and the drowned world below.
Dog (d) — Brown, wet, silent. Watches the water. Knows something it can't say.
Sally (S) — Shepherd on the pasture. Tends 8 sheep. Teaches feeding, shearing, and fertilizing. She's seen the underwater ruins.
Pierre (P) — Baker. Theatrical, passionate, flour-dusted. Runs the oven and mill. Will weep over a good loaf.
Mouse (m) — Lives in the bakery. Feed it bread and it reveals a golden seed hidden in the floor.
Maria (R) — Fisher at the pier. Eyes like deep ocean. Teaches patience and deep fishing. Knows the ruins.
Ashley (L) — Lumberjack in the dense forest. Chops trees for wood and acorns.
Raven (V) & Crow (c) — Guard the granary. Stone mill processes wheat into fine grain for better bread.
Niko (N) — Fish monger at the smokehouse. Runs the smoking rack and oil press. Turns your catch into lasting food.
Caleb (K) — Carpenter at the woodworks. Steam-bends sticks into planks. Builds crates from planks and rope.
Yuki (Y) — Naturalist at the tide pools. Studies what grows in the shallow pools. Kelp, salt, and preserved fish.

Story Islands (raised during Episodes 1-5):
Camp — Starting island. Well, fire pit, 2 tents, the Old Man. Your home base.
Wheat Farm — Tilled soil for planting wheat and corn. David and his dog.
Sheep Pasture — 8 sheep, Sally. Feed, shear, fertilize. Sheep pasture speeds all crop growth by 50%.
Bakery — Pierre's oven and mill. Mill wheat, bake bread. Extra flotsam sticks.
Fishing Pier — Maria. Fish without bait (40% silver, 30% deep, 30% miss). See the underwater ruins.
Roguelike Islands (raised during Free Play, repeatable):
Dense Forest — Ashley the lumberjack. Chop trees for wood + acorns. Wood and acorns in flotsam.
Granary — Raven & Crow. Stone mill: 2 wheat → 1 grain (bakes 3 bread instead of 2). Wood in flotsam.
Cornfield — David variant. Plant kernels, harvest 3 corn + 2 kernels. Kernels in flotsam.
Smokehouse — Niko the fish monger. Smoke fish (2 fish + 2 sticks → 2 smoked fish). Press oil (3 fish → 1 fish oil).
Woodworks — Caleb the carpenter. Steam-bend planks (4 sticks + 2 water → 1 plank). Build crates (3 planks + 1 rope).
Tide Pools — Yuki the naturalist. Gather kelp. Evaporate salt (3 water + 2 sticks). Preserve fish (1 fish + 1 salt → 2 preserved).
Autoplay (F9) — Press F9 or add ?autotest=1 to the URL to activate the AI autoplay system. It plays through all 5 episodes and into free play automatically. Useful for testing or watching the game unfold hands-free. Press F9 again to stop.
Tips
• Always fuel the fire (2 sticks at *) before sleeping. Sleep needs a fueled fire and costs 1 stick to maintain overnight.
• Draw water from the well (O) often. You need it for crops, baking, drinking, and later for planks and salt.
• Flotsam (;) respawns on beaches each phase. It gets better as you discover islands — fish, seeds, wool, wood, kernels, salt, kelp.
• Raise the sheep pasture early if possible — it cuts all crop growth time in half.
• In free play, prioritize what you need: sticks sink → smokehouse or woodworks. Fish sink → smokehouse. Water sink → tide pools or woodworks.
• The Old Man's requests for deep bait rotate randomly between wheat, wool, bread, sticks, and fish. Stockpile a bit of everything.
• Save often (Shift+S). The game auto-saves at the start of each day.
